Why should I celebrate Christmas?

I am not in the mood for Christmas this year, this is largely because I have been doing a lot of thinking. I am a Christian, therefore I don’t need 25th of December to remind me that Christ came into the world. I am in Christ, I communicate with him everyday. Besides there were no calendars in Jesus’ day so there is no proof that he was born on this day anyway.

My second reason is the way Christmas is celebrated here in the West, all the lavish spending, added to that the debts parents get themselves into just to please their kids or just to keep up with the Jones’. Quite frankly I will rather give my money to a charity.

Finally, from a personal point of view, I am tired of wandering who is going to invite to their home (s) this Christmas. My family have moved abroad, so there is just me and a fraction of my extended family, whom although I get on really well with, don’t want to be burden to them every year. Besides some of them go away for Christmas.

I am not trying to put people off Christmas but I have had time to reflect so I have seen things differently. It has now helped me to understand why some Christians don’t celebrate the festive season. On a positive note, I am glad I will be on Annual leave for nearly 2 weeks.

Be Blessed,
